Penpals are fun. Picking out the coolest stationary, writing letters, waiting replies, and that excitement when that reply came nestled between the bills and other daily mail. Eddie loved it. Less fun was when those replies had stopped coming. Every Sunday for a long time, he staked out the mailbox. Even when he’d learned why.


Dead penpals can’t write back.


Figures Eddie’s penpal found a way, and a reply comes only when Eddie no longer has a mailbox to stake out. He doesn’t question how, but he does mention the ninja deliveryman in his reply. That’s a bit much.

Prompt: Running away from home

“Hey Jason, have you ever run away from home before?” Steph asked, watching Wendy Darling leap out of her window after Peter Pan.


“Couple times.” Jason said, still squished against the end of the couch, as far from Steph as he could get, like she was waiting for a chance to stab him.


Fine, she was willing to admit it, movie night with the guy whose only interactions with other people since he’d been a kid had involved violence? Bad idea. Conversation could only make it less awkward, right?


“Yeah, how’d that go?”


“I blew up and died.”


“Right.” Steph sighed.
